Intention Awareness
Every time we step into movement, we bring something with us—a mindset, an intention, a belief about what this dance is and why we are doing it. Some of these perspectives expand us, offering new pathways for expression and connection. Others subtly constrain us, introducing pressure, self-consciousness, or even shame.
This practice invites you to step into different ways of being in your movement—to explore what it feels like to shift intention, to notice what changes (or what stays the same), and to become aware of the lenses you naturally gravitate toward. Through repetition, we can see movement not as a fixed thing, but as something deeply shaped by the why behind it.
There is no right way to approach dance, only choices. Some intentions will feel deeply familiar, others foreign. Some may open new doors, while others reveal the unconscious pressures we have placed on ourselves. The question is: Which ones serve you? And which ones might you want to release?
Your movement is not just about the steps you take—it’s about where you’re moving from. What perspective do you want to embody as you step forward?
Reflective Questions for Integration (in a journal or in the comments!)
- Which mindset felt the most natural? The most challenging?
- Were there any perspectives that made your movement feel freer? More restricted?
- Did you notice any judgments arising in certain versions?
- Which way of moving do you want to invite in more often? Which do you want to let go of?
- How can this awareness shift the way you approach dance in your daily practice?
